Open Women's Trips Winners
Report from Andre Deramond, National Director of Sport, PFA
Venue: Quote from participant "Caulfield Petanque Club provided a great venue with some of the best facilities seen in Australia” and must be complimented Competitions:
Singles Thursday had some good matches and a very good final, all participants discovering the playing area loved it.
Doubles the most difficult day as we were running 12 different competitions at one stage (Finals time) finished at 9.50 pm with still a good crowd. We obviously need to review format and categories
Triples Sat and Sunday, players were starting to look tired those in particular who played in 3 events.
A great carnival atmosphere with all players mingling and having fun (WA, NSW, Qld, SA, TAS, Vic, NZ and Mauritius) were represented. Best Australian players were present and all competitions were of a high standard. Eric Leconte Single and Triple champion in his speech saying that we need more of those long and hard competitions if we want to be competitive overseas. It wasn’t smooth sailing and we need to review some part of the format to insure that the event is better next year. No odd numbers in registration as Bye is not accepted by most players in particular when they do not qualify for the next round beaten by a team who benefited of a bye. Streaming events live from opening ceremony to finals every day was absolutely fantastic a first in Australia. PFA needs to acknowledge Alex Amster for putting together the streaming providing equipment and personnel to film official opening and all finals. The sport minister delegate was so impressed by the coverage that he wishes to discuss further promotional activities with Alex Amster. Over 1000 viewers for the opening ceremony and same for each final, all finals can still be seen on Facebook, personally amazed to see live conversation between viewers from Adelaide, Perth and NSW.
Some players wanting confirmation that the event will be held at Caulfield as they want to book flights and accommodation as early as possible to profit of cheaper fares and prices. A special mention must be given to John Paul Ernst from Camberwell for his 4 days great work on running the SPORT software for PFA assisted by Stephanie Browne from NZ Federation (She wanted to learn about the software).
Thanks too to our umpires Danny Green, Terry Dando and David Shaw great work and assistance
And Graham Jones Caulfield President, Colin Buckley club Secretary and all the Caulfield Petanque Club members who worked so hard to prepare the venue + backing it up during the 4 days
Keeping place clean and tidy
Thanks to Joe Corcoran PFA President for acting as a tournament director on Saturday and Sunday, doing also the presentation with Terry Dando PFA Secretary.
