New Guidelines for National Competitions

After the 2018 Carnival of Petanque tournament (held for the second year at Caulfield Petanque Club), the PFA Board decided to review the format and performance of the event with the view to improving it in future years. The PFA established a Championships Review Subcommittee which met in May. An initial Discussion Paper was distributed to members and other interested parties which outlined the thinking of the PFA Board. Two rounds of consultation occurred. This feedback has been considered and the PFA proposes to run future National Championships (The Easter Carnival of Petanque) according to the guidelines available here.

Victorian Coaching Clinic a success

Patrick Dufresne the PFA National Coach conducted a coaching clinic for Mornington Peninsula Clubs on Saturday the 9th June at the Main Ridge Bowls and Petanque Club. He was assisted by new Club Coaches Jean Claude Dufroux and Mohan Nugawela and Patrick’s wife Lynn Dufresne. Twenty players from Main Ridge, Mornington Peninsula and St. Andrews Beach Petanque clubs took part in the coaching clinic. It was a comprehensive programme that comprised both theory and practical sessions. Newcastle “Marcel Linares” Open Doubles 9-10 June 2018 Newcastle

The annual Newcastle “Marcel Linares” Open Doubles was held over the Saturday and Sunday of the June long weekend. The club had initially 37 teams unfortunately this was reduced to 35 teams due to cancelled flights from WA. Players came from South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand. The Linares family was well represented again with Eric, Daniel, Pascal and their friends; they seem to enjoy this annual pilgrimage to the city!
