Training Videos

There is a lot of great petanque material on the Internet. Some of the training videos are excellent for using in demonstrating the basics of the sport to newcomers. One of the best we've seen is this video from the English Petanque Association.

Vale Mike Mulvihill

We are deeply saddened to have to let you know that Mike Mulvihill passed away last evening Wednesday 7 February. Please remember Mike for the great things he did for Petanque in SA, especially as Founder the Prospect Club and for the SA State League in its early days, also his many team representations for SA and Australia on the International scene. To all who knew Mike he was a genuine good bloke who would go out of his way for you..especially if you were a Crows fan. Our Sport in SA has lost one of its dedicated enthusiasts and a pioneer of many of the things we do today in our great game. Remember Mike. Allan Sanderson President Prospect Petanque Club

Action from Apollo Bay

The Annual Apollo Bay Petanque tournament is always a great weekend for petanquers from South Eastern Australia. This year's event on Feb 10/11 was hotly contested with 25 teams including some from Adelaide and Coonawarra in South Australia. The final was a classic with Tory, David and Lionel from Prospect Club in Adelaide winning against a strong team from Weird in Victoria in a 13 to12 finish. Well done everyone.

Congrats to Patrick Dufresne

The PFA's National Director of Coaching, Patrick Dufresne, is now an Internationally Qualified Coach Level 3. He is one of only 5 Petanque Coaches qualified to that level outside of France. In order to achieve this qualification Patrick had to attend a training course and pass the required exam in France. Prior to Patrick achieving this Qualification, PFA has, on 4 previous occasions, had to bring international level coaches from overseas to allow Australian coaches to qualify at a national level. Patrick's Certificate arrived recently . Congratulations patrick.

Aussies do well in NZ Open Triples

Australia's Jean Francois Veyssiere, Michael Lacase and Jessen Soomary traveled to New Zealand last weekend (Feb 3rd and 4th) to complete in the NZ Triples Open Titles. Top players from Tahiti, New Caledonia, Australia, France, Denmark and New Zealand competed over two days for a $6000 prize pool at Herne Bay Petanque Club. There were 40 teams competing and the Australian team came in equal 3rd! A very good result.

Player Licence Policy reviewed

The PFA Board considered extensive feedback from Clubs and as a result has modified the Licenced Player Policy . The recently introduced Casual Licence has been replaced by a Day Licence. For full details the document is available here. The form required is available here.
